Pete Reid papers

Abstract

The Pete Reid papers contain correspondence, newspapers, photographs, budget reports, and meeting minutes. Reid served as treasurer and assistant to Whitman’s president from 1948 to 2009. Reid was the longest serving faculty member of Whitman’s staff, and was instrumental in bolstering Whitman’s endowment, physical campus, and involvement in the wider Walla Walla community.

Scope and Contents Ren (Renaissance) Faire originated in 1971 at Whitman College as an outgrowth of the Whitman Renaissance Consort. Kate Bracher, the co-director of the Consort at that time, and Ruth Spangler, were the first chairpersons of Ren Faire. The title of the event changed often in the beginning, shifting between May Fete, Renaissance Pleasure Faire, and Renaissance Faire.
