Rich Family Collection
Content Description
The Rich family collection houses the personal and family records of the Rich family. This collection, dating from 1864 to approximately 1972, consists of a bible owned by David Whitman, a scrapbook documenting the boxing career of Henry Rich, photographs of Whitman College campus and the Rich family, and newspaper clippings. This collection mainly documents the Rich family and their involvement in both Whitman College and the Walla Walla area.

Biographical Note
Omar Whitman Rich, born September 15, 1863, was a farmer and a teacher who married Abbie Angeline Brown, born April 24, 1874, in June 1891. They sent three of their children to Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington: Theodore “Ted” Rich, who graduated in 1921 with a degree in Economics, Louise Rich Buck, who graduated in 1928, and Henry Rich, who boxed in the Walla Walla area under the pseudonym Richie Davis. The Rich family are direct descendants of Samuel Whitman, the grandfather of Marcus Whitman.
