Biographical Note

Robert “Bob” Graham was born in Payette, Idaho in 1916. He was a star sprinter at Whitman College from 1932 to 1936, specializing in the 100-yard dash. He qualified for the national finals in 1936, but missed a chance to join Jesse Owens at the Berlin olympics due to a leg injury. He still holds the Whitman record for the 100-yard dash (9.6 seconds) and the 220-yard dash (21.2 seconds). Robert Graham completed his law degree at Columbia University and later served as the president of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce. He died in Seattle on January 5, 1990, at the age of 74.
