Gilliam Family Papers
Scope and Contents
The Gilliam Family Papers consists of Colonel Cornelius Gilliam's commission papers for the First Regiment of Oregon Riflemen, estate papers, and a newspaper article describing his life. These papers, which date from 1847 through 1957, also contain a letter of introduction for Masonic Lodge membership, farm lease documents, and letters requesting compensation for service in wars fought against Native Americans from 1855 to 1856. Also included is an autobiography describing his participation in the conflicts with Native Americans, and real estate transaction documents, from 1878 and 1879, for Washington S. Gilliam.
