Keith Farrington papers
Scope and Contents
The Keith Farrington papers date from 1970 to 2005 and include documents on budgets, school policies and code, committee meeting minutes, meetings and requests regarding curriculum, memoranda, and faculty governance records. In his time at Whitman College, professor Farrington served as chair of the sociology department, chair of the faculty (1998-2000; 2000-2002), chair of division 1 (1986-1989), and director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (2003-2006; 2006-2008). Committees and councils represented in the Farrington papers include the college athletic committee, council on student affairs, president's council, admissions board, board of review, aid to faculty scholarship committee (ASID), and faculty and academic councils. Areas of possible interest to researchers include academic programs and curriculum.

Partial contents of this collection are restricted. Student educational records such as credentials, grade sheets, correspondence, reports, notes, applications, and all other records pertaining to past and present students are governed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and are restricted for 75 years from the date of creation. Personnel related files of the college's faculty and staff, including search, review, promotion, reappointment, tenure, and disciplinary/grievance records, are restricted for 75 years from the date of creation. Biographical / Historical
Myles Keith Farrington was born on December 21, 1947 in Dover, New Hampshire. He came to Whitman as faculty in the department of sociology in 1977, after receiving his undergraduate degree from Bates College in Maine and his doctorate from the University of New Hampshire. He has received numerous awards for teaching, advising, research, and scholarship, including Washington State Professor of the Year by CASE (the Council for Advancement of and Support of Education) in 1992. Farrington’s scholarship focused on the family, criminology, popular music, and research methods. Professor Farrington retired in Spring of 2020 and remains chair of social sciences and professor of sociology, emeritus. For over 40 years he has been married to Nancy Travelli, the associate dean of campus life and director of residence life and housing.

Processing Information
Materials were rehoused into acid-free folders and boxes. Original folder titles were retained, with clarification added by archivists as needed. Original order was largely maintained, with a few exceptions for housing needs.
