Historical Note

The United Spanish War Veterans was established in 1904 and stayed active as an organization until 1992, when the last members passed away. Included in the organization were people who had served in the Spanish-American War (1898), Philippine-American War (1899 to 1902), and the Chinese Relief Expedition (1900 to 1901). The Women’s Auxiliary was founded during the Spanish-American War and was comprised of mothers, wives, daughters, and sisters of Spanish-American War veterans as well as other patriotic nurses and women. During wartime, the Women’s Auxiliary aided soldiers and ministered the sick. After the war, the group continued to meet regularly and organize events, fundraisers, and other activities to support the veterans. The Walla Walla chapter of the Women’s Auxiliary was connected to the Henry Lawton Camp No. 10.
