The Jones Family Papers consist of Frank Lowden Jones and Bonnie Jean Jaycox Jones' photographs, sketches, and insurance papers. The collection, which dates from 1909 through 1988, also contains financial records, postcards, awards, and correspondence.

Biographical Note

Frank Lowden Jones was born in Walla Walla, Washington, June 16, 1893. He attended local schools and studied for two years at Whitman College. In 1917 he married Jean Jaycox in Walla Walla. His business career started in Seattle with Pacific Steamship Co. In 1919 he became affiliated with Jones-Scott Co. as secretary-treasurer and operated that firm's Seattle office, later returning to the Walla Walla office. Frank was for many years the general manager of Walla Walla Canning Co. He had been identified with that company since its inception in 1932. Frank was active in many fraternal organizations and was a supporter of Whitman College for many years. He was a member of the Board of Overseers, a trustee and a member of the finance committee.

Bonnie Jean Jaycox Jones was born in Walla Walla in 1893. She attended Sharpstein School, graduated from Walla Walla High School, attended Whitman College for two years, and attended the University of Washington. She married F. Lowden Jones on November 8, 1917. The settled in Walla Walla and Bonnie Jean designed their home on University and Brookside. Bonnie Jean parented 22 young women through their teenage years, providing a home for the students who needed a place to live. The couple started this project during the Depression when many families had to split up because of financial problems. Since the Joneses didn't have children, the young women became their family and they helped them through Whitman College. They also adopted one of the girls, Ingrid Hylland from Norway. Bonnie Jean died in 1988.

Abstract

Frank Lowden Jones and Bonnie Jean Jaycox Jones were active members of the Walla Walla community throughout the first half of the 20th century. The Jones Family Papers contains, a scrapbook of postcards, sketches, insurance papers, and financial records. This collection, which dates from 1909 through 1988, also contains postcards, awards, and correspondence.
