Historical Note
The first public school in Walla Walla opened in 1862. Throughout Walla Walla County, many rural schools sprang up, each with their own district. The late 1800s saw as many as 12 different districts. As time went on, many districts consolidated or closed as population shifted and it became more feasible to transport students to larger schools. At present, seven distinct districts remain in Walla Walla County.
