Scope and Contents
The Annie J. Rue Papers contains personal material of Annie J. Rue. This collection, which dates from 1902 to 1906, consists of picture postcards of Walla Walla, a program and notes for a University of California Berkeley production of The Ajax of Sophocles, a subpoena to Washington State Superior Court, Whitman College documents, lyrics to Whitman songs and a handwritten song called "Three Jolly Pigeons,” dance cards and social events materials, personal documents and letters of Annie J. Rue, and transfer materials for Annie J. Rue from University of California Berkeley to Whitman College. It also houses the Constitution of the Girls Ministerial Association of Whitman College, a predecessor of the Greek system, and a scrapbook of Annie J. Rue's time at Whitman.

Biographical Note
Annie J. Rue was born in May, 1884 and graduated from Whitman College in 1906 after transferring from the University of California Berkeley. At Whitman, Rue was an active member of the theater department and acted in several plays including “She Stoops to Conquer” and “Alice in Wonderland.” She was a founding member of the Gamma Kappa sorority as well as a member of the Libethrian Society. In 1930, Whitman College put on a production of a play that Rue wrote titled “Clever Isabel.”
