Historical Note

The Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company was founded on July 1, 1961 and provided local telecommunications services in Oregon, Washington, and northern Idaho. It was originally owned by AT&T. The company created what was then the world’s most advanced telephone service to serve the Seattle World’s Fair in April, 1962. The Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company became defunct on January 1, 1991 when the Regional Bell Operating Company US West merged it with three other telephone companies in the area to form US West Communications, Inc.
