Scope and Contents

The Narcissa Prentiss Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Collection consists of photographs, correspondence and scrapbooks containing ephemera from state and national conventions as well as newspaper clippings highlighting local events and members. These records, which date from 1913 through 1964, also contain convention scrapbooks feature Mrs. Alexander (Ethel) Britton, Regent of the Washington State Chapter from 1962 to 1964. Handbooks of the Children of the American Revolution are also included.

Genealogical and historical records from Idaho, Washington, Oregon and California pioneer descendants, compiled by the Daughters of the American Revolution as part of their historic preservation work, are part of this group.

Historical Note

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890. Its purposes are to celebrate those who achieved independence, to promote patriotism, and to promote education for all. Since 1890 the Daughters of the American Revolution have accepted over 950,000 new members. The Walla Walla Narcissa Whitman chapter of the DAR was founded in 1915 by Malen Burnett, and disbanded in 2018.

They contains photographs, correspondence, and scrapbooks. These records, which date from 1913 through 1964, also contain newspaper clippings and geneological and historical records.
