Biographical / Historical

Delta Tau Delta (Delt) is an international Greek letter college fraternity. Delta Tau Delta was founded in 1858 at Bethany College, Bethany, West Virginia. The Whitman College Delta Rho Chapter of the fraternity was chartered in 1948, as the influx of new men brought in by the G.I. bill led to an increased demand for fraternities. The group carried on until 1994, when it disbanded due to financial struggles. The old Delta Tau Delta fraternity house was reacquisitioned as student housing under the name Marcus House, and the remaining funds were used to help refurbish Penrose library. As a result, one of the library study rooms bears the fraternity's name.
