Scope and Contents
This collection contains three scrapbooks created by Vernon McFarlane that include portraits of family members, newspaper clippings from McFarlane’s time as a student at Whitman College, and photographs from his years during college (at both Whitman College and the University of Washington) and beyond. The materials in this collection date from circa 1880 to circa 1940.

Biographical Note
Vernon Harold McFarlane was born on May 17, 1904 in Oregon to George H. and Anna Kilburg McFarlane. He attended grade school in Dixie, Washington and graduated from Walla Walla High School. In 1927, he graduated from Whitman College and in 1930 he graduated with a master’s degree from the University of Washington. During his professional career, McFarlane worked as a high school science teacher, chemist, and bacteriologist. McFarlane died in Walla Walla, Washington on May 24, 1978.
