The Robert W. Stevens and Eva Joan Miller Stevens Papers contain materials that document their time as students at Whitman College, as well as their lives as active members of the Walla Wallla, Washington community. Included are photographs and ephemera from the Alpha Phi sorority, Harper Joy Theatre productions, and newspaper clippings about their activities. There are also materials that document the activities of the Sweet Adelines choral group, the Junior Club, Prospect Point Elementary School, and the Walla Walla Country Club. The collection spans from 1948 to 2005.

Biographical Note

Robert W. "Spud" Stevens was born April 18, 1925 in Walla Walla, Washington to Erva and Robert Stevens. Spud graduated from Walla Walla High School, and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943. He served as a signalman aboard the USS Grayson during World War Two. After the war, Spud attended Whitman College where he was an active member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated from Whitman in 1950 with a degree in Sociology.

Eva Joan "Joanie" Miller Stevens was born November 26, 1930 in Seattle, Washington to Clarence and Eva Mae Miller. Joanie attended college at Whitman, where she was member of teh Alpha Phi sorority, and an active participant in campus theater and music programs. She graduated in 1952 with a degree in Sociology. Joanie and Spud met during their time at Whitman and were married on October 11, 1952. They went on to have three children. Joanie became a teacher, and was involved with community music and theater groups including the Walla Walla Little Theatre, Junior Club, and Sweet Adelines.
