Historical note

PRISM is a club for students, faculty, and staff who identify with, or are allies of, the queer community on campus. The club is led by a student intern and advised by the LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex) Program Coordinator. The first record of an organized gay, bisexual, and lesbian group on campus was 1989, and in 1991 they had become active and open enough to request Associated Students of Whitman College... (ASWC) funding. In 1992, the group split in two in order to both provide a confidential social group for queer students known as the Gay and Lesbian Association (GLA) and spearhead queer education on the Whitman campus through the The Coalition Against Homophobia (CAH). By the end of the 2013 to 2014 school year, the club had transitioned into the GLBTQ (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) and since then has transitioned into its current iteration, PRISM.
