The Borders as Methods club (BAM) was founded on the Whitman campus in 2015 after a group of students participated in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands program with Professor Aaron Bobrow-Strain and Earlham College Border Studies program. Upon returning to campus, the group organized the first Weekend Immigration Studies Program (WISP) and ImMigration Week. They then began a campaign to become an Associated Students of Whitman College funded club, which was ultimately successful. The club has since organized more Weekend Immigration Studies Programs and ImMigration Weeks, several lectures,, and established an Immigration Legal Defense Fund and two annual Borders as Methods internships. They were also responsible for a successful campaign to appoint an Undocumented student advocate on the Whitman Campus.
