The Doug Eglington Collection of KWCW Recordings houses a selection of audio recordings from Whitman College’s radio station, KWCW.FM, previously owned by Doug Eglington, KWCW news director from 1971 to 1972. This collection, which dates from 1970 to 1972, consists of 12 reels of magnetic tape and 13 cassette tapes. Some of the recordings include interviews with politicians such as Wayne Morse and George McGovern, news broadcasts covering events such as President Nixon’s visit to the Walla Walla airport, and music.

Historical note

The Whitman College radio station, KWCW.FM, was founded in January 1971 after a year of planning. The first semester of broadcast was conducted under Station Manager, Robert Searfoss, Communications Coordinator, Rodger Wells, Program Director, Gary Scheidel, and News Director, Doug Eglington. Broadcasts ran from four in the afternoon to the early hours of the morning, and the station was one of only a few student owned and operated radio stations in country. It was the largest non-academic organization on campus with a staff of around 50 students. The station continues to be active today.
