Scope and Contents
The Jose A. Rambaldi Collection of Musical Scores, which dates from 1987 to 1989, contains several musical scores written by Jose Ariel Rambaldi as well as sheet music from other composers such as Mozart and Locatelli and materials he likely used for classes. Some of Rambaldi’s personal works include “The Tigresse,” “Potnia Theron: An Initiation Ceremony,” “Four Pieces for Violin and Piano,” and music for a three act opera called “House on the Marshes.”

Biographical Note
Jose Ariel Rambaldi was born on May 16, 1931 in Argentina. He was a talented pianist, musical composer, and conductor. He came to the United States in 1957 and worked at the Cleveland Institute of Music, followed by Michigan State University. He was a professor of music at Whitman College and the department chair. Alongside his position as a college faculty member, he was the conductor of the Walla Walla Symphony from 1969 to 1976. In 1986, he received the Washington State Governor's Award for his contribution to the arts. Rambaldi died on January 13, 1990.
