Scope and Contents
The Abbie and Eldon Simmons Oral History contains an oral history interview with Eldon and Abbie Simmons, recorded on July 4, 1993 on two VHS tapes. The interviews were conducted at a family reunion, and contain information about growing up in the Walla Walla area in the early twentieth century.

Biographical Note
Eldon L. Simmons was born May 23, 1913 in Dayton, Washington. He attended two years at Lowden High School. He farmed on the Cottonwood with his father, and married Abbie Katherine Mosner in Walla Walla on September 4, 1937. During World War Two, Simmons worked for Inland Motor Freight, then as an accountant for Pacific Supply Cooperative until 1962. He became a state examiner at the Washington State Auditor’s office, and retired in 1978. Eldon was also treasurer of the Masonic Cemetery, and volunteered at the Fort Walla Walla Museum. He died on September 29, 1997 at the age of 84.
Abbie K. Simmons was born as Abbie Mosner on August 29, 1917 in Alsea, Oregon. Her family moved to Touchet, Washington when she was an infant. Abbie attended both Walla Walla High School and Whitman College, where she studied art. She participated in Camp Fire, was a Guardian of Job’s Daughters and a lifelong member of the Central Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School and organized events. She died on July 19, 2006 at the age of 88.
