Biographical Note
Stephen Beasley Linnard Penrose was born on December 20, 1864 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Penrose attended Yale Divinity School, and then he was elected to the Whitman College Board of Trustees in 1892. He was third president of Whitman College, serving from 1894 until 1934. He died on June 17, 1947 in Walla Walla, Washington.
