Biographical Note
Virgil Brodrick, born 1833, was a farmer in Andover, New Jersey. After the Confederate bombardment of Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina, he enlisted in the Union Army. He worked his way up to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, eventually leading a charge in the June 9, 1863 Battle of Brandy Station, Virginia, where he was unhorsed and killed.
