The Oregon Steam Navigation Company, Wallula Agency, records, which date from 1861 to 1862, contain a manifest book maintained by the Wallula office of the O.S.N.

Historical Note
The Oregon Steam Navigation Company (O.S.N.) was founded in Washington in 1860 by J. S. Ruckle, Henry Olmstead, and J. O. Van Bergen. The company operated steamships between San Francisco and The Dalles, serving the lumber and salmon fishing industries all along the California coast and the Columbia River. The O.S.N. enjoyed a prosperous monopoly for a number of years, until rate wars with competitors and expensive portage renovations rendered them defunct in 1879.
