Scope and Contents
The Walla Walla National Youth Administration records house the organizational records of the Walla Walla, Washington branch of the National Youth Administration (NYA). These records, which dates from 1934 to 1941, consist of correspondence, orders, payroll records, hour reports, work sheets, monthly reports, applications to join the NYA, work agreements, and bank forms. This collection documents the efforts after the Depression to get Walla Walla youth back in the workforce.

Historical Note
The National Youth Administration (NYA) was a New Deal agency sponsored by Franklin Roosevelt that focused on providing work and education for Americans between the ages of 16 and 25. Founded on June 26, 1935, the NYA helped over 4.5 million Americans nationally find employment, receive vocational training, and achieve higher standards of education. The Walla Walla, Washington bureau of the National Youth Administration, played a role in Walla Walla’s recovery from the Great Depression.
