Biographical Note

George M. Weister, born in 1862 in Pennsylvania, began his photography career in 1890 as a salesman for the E. J. Partridge Photographic Supply Company, which operated out of Portland, Oregon. In 1895, he opened his own photography business, called the Weister Company, selling photographic supplies, lantern slides and cameras along with his services as a photographer. Weister died in 1922 at the age of 59, after which his co-worker acquired his company and his extensive collection of negatives.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Donated to the Whitman College and Northwest Archives by Mrs. John D. Watson in 1979. There is no accession number, but there is some accession information in box 1.
