Historical Note
Juliette Gordon Law established the first ever Girl Scout troop in 1912, in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia. The program started a national movement that gave girls the opportunity for outdoor adventure as well as volunteer endeavors. The Girl Scout program now has 2.6 million members in 92 countries, and 50 million alumni. The first Girl Scout unit in Walla Walla, Washington was established in December 1959. The local program began with twenty one girls, and two troops were formed, one of Girl Scouts and one of Brownie Scouts.
