Content Description

The Bill Lilley Photographs houses photographs taken by Bill Lilley, mainly for the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, a local newspaper in Walla Walla, Washington. This collection, dating from approximately the 1930s through the 1980s, consists of printed photographs, negatives, slides, halftone printing plates, newspaper clippings, an album, and letters. This collection documents Lilley’s career as a photographer, some members of his family, and many people and events that occured in Walla Walla in the mid-20th century.

Biographical Note

William T. “Bill” Lilley, born in 1907 in Silver Springs, New York, married Mabel Leota Hall, born December 31, 1906, in approximately 1930. Shortly after Mabel’s death on May 17, 1941, Bill moved to Walla Walla, Washington, working as the lead photographer for the Walla Walla Union Bulletin newspaper from 1953 through 1972. He died in Walla Walla on December 1, 1999, at the age of 91.
