Historical Note
The McLean Grocery Company was one of the largest Walla Walla grocers of its time. Though the McLean name was associated with the company from the late 1880s, when it was founded, through 1933, the store actually underwent a series of ownership changes which culminated in a sale to Safeway in 1933. Prior to this sale, the McLean Grocery Company was mainly operated by Malcolm M. McLean (1845-1927) and John F. McLean (1839-1915).
