The collection consists of correspondence to and from Dr. Penrose. The content of the correspondence ranges from student and faculty recruitment to fundraising to the bestowal of honorary degrees to exchanges with academicians at other institutions. Letters of encouragement, sympathy, congratulations, and praise are included.

Presidential reports, materials regarding the "Penrose Celebration" in 1919, as well as newspaper clippings, eulogies and the "Memories" book from his memorial service are part of this group.
