Education files, 2005-2014
Scope and Contents
This series consists of material relating to the educational programs of the Confluence Project: Confluence in the Schools and Confluence in the Classroom. While there is some documentation about the planning and evaluation of the programs, the bulk of the files document the actual programs happening in the schools. Included are photographs, grant proposals, and some materials created out of the programs.

Historical Note
The Confluence Project included an educational component designed for schools at the K-12 level. A school-based arts education program, Confluence Project in the Schools (CIS) connected students and teachers with artists, tribes and community partners. Classrooms were given the same commission as Maya Lin; to respond to the Lewis and Clark commemoration. CIS ran from 2004 to 2007, with schools participating from locations spanning the sites at the Confluence Project, from the Pacific Ocean to the confluence of the Snake and Columbia Rivers.
Another educational program, Confluence in the Classroom, evolved out of CIS. Schools that participated are often “underserved” and have been negatively impacted by reductions in arts curricula. Lesson plans are designed to connect individual schools with Native and Indigenous artists from the Pacific Northwest. Students complete creative projects, visit significant historical locations (including, but not exclusively, Confluence sites), and share their work with their school and community at the end of the year.
